Terms of Use

1. What this service is

ShootingSports (shootingsports.co.za, “we”, “us”) is an independent discovery register and match calendar for sport shooting in South Africa. We publish listings of clubs, ranges, disciplines, matches, and related industry providers so shooters can find events and organisations.

We are not:

  • the organiser, host, range officer, safety authority, or insurer of any match or training activity;
  • a firearms dealer, and we do not facilitate the sale, transfer, or unlicensed handling of firearms or ammunition;
  • a replacement for any federation, club, or third-party registration or scoring system (for example Practiscore or a federation portal).

Match entry, payment to organisers, squadding, scoring, and range rules are between you and the relevant club, match director, association, or third-party system. Where we show an entry or results link, that link leaves our site.

2. Acceptance

By accessing or using the website, creating an account, claiming a listing, submitting content, or subscribing to Pro, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy & POPIA notice. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

3. Eligibility and accounts

  • You must provide accurate registration details and keep them current.
  • You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials and for activity under your account.
  • Shooter accounts and match-director (Desk) access may be refused, suspended, or revoked if we reasonably believe these Terms are breached or that listings or claims are fraudulent or unsafe.
  • Match-director access may require staff review before you can publish or edit listings.

4. Listings and accuracy

  • Event, club, range, and supplier information may come from staff curation, automated imports from public calendars, claimed organisations, or other contributors.
  • We aim for useful, current information but do not warrant that any listing is complete, accurate, or up to date. Always confirm details with the organiser before travelling or entering.
  • Past events may be retained for history; status (including cancelled or postponed) may change without notice to every visitor.
  • “Last verified” or similar timestamps, where shown, are operational indicators only — not a guarantee.

5. Third-party events, venues, and links

  • Clicking through to register, pay, or view results takes you to a third-party site or system under that party’s terms.
  • We are not a party to any registration, entry fee, refund, squadding, equipment, or match-day arrangement.
  • You use ranges and attend matches at your own risk and subject to the organiser’s rules, the Firearms Control Act and related regulations, and applicable range and safety requirements. We do not assess or certify compliance of any event or venue.

6. User content, claims, and Desk

If you claim a club or organisation, submit or edit listings, or otherwise contribute content:

  • You confirm you are authorised to act for that organisation (or that the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge).
  • You grant us a non-exclusive licence to host, display, and distribute that content on the service (and in embeds and feeds we provide).
  • You must not post unlawful, defamatory, misleading, or infringing material, or list activities that unlawfully involve firearms.
  • We may edit, unpublish, or remove listings and reverse or refuse claims at our discretion, including after a dispute.
  • Contested claims may be decided by us on the information available; our decision on platform access is final for the service (it does not decide ownership of a real-world club).

7. Pro subscriptions and payments

  • Browsing the public calendar and directory remains free. Pro adds personalisation and convenience features (for example higher follow and saved-search limits, attendance-log depth, exports) as described on the upgrade page; feature limits may change.
  • Paid Pro is billed via our payment provider (Paystack). Card data is handled by Paystack; we do not store full card numbers.
  • Trials (where offered) do not require a card unless you choose to subscribe. Cancelling stops future charges; access continues until the end of the period already paid, as stated in the product UI.
  • Prices are in South African Rand as displayed at checkout. We do not hold shooter funds for third-party match entries.

8. Advertising and enquiries

  • Advertising placements and directory features may be sold or invoiced separately. Submitting an advertising or listing enquiry does not create a contract until we confirm in writing.
  • Audience insights, if offered later, will be aggregated and de-identified as described in our privacy notice.

9. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • scrape or overload the service in a way that harms availability (reasonable personal or authorised use of public pages and documented embeds or iCal is allowed);
  • attempt unauthorised access to accounts, Desk, or Admin;
  • use the service to advertise illegal firearm sales or transfers;
  • impersonate clubs, officials, or other users;
  • interfere with other users’ enjoyment of the service.

We may rate-limit, block, or remove content to protect the service and users.

10. Reporting and takedown

Report inaccurate, unsafe, or unlawful listings to hello@shootingsports.co.za (or use any in-product report action if provided). We will review in good faith and may remove or amend listings. This is not a commitment to any specific response time.

11. Intellectual property

Site design, branding, software, and our original compilation of the register are owned by us or our licensors. You may not copy the database wholesale for a competing product. Individual clubs and organisers retain their rights in their own names, logos, and materials they supply.

12. Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by South African law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:

  • your attendance at, or inability to attend, any match;
  • acts or omissions of organisers, clubs, ranges, federations, or other users;
  • loss arising from reliance on listing information;
  • third-party websites, payments to organisers, or payment-provider outages;
  • indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of (a) fees you paid us for Pro in the three months before the claim, or (b) R500.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (including for gross negligence or wilful misconduct where such exclusion is not allowed).

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your content, your claim of an organisation, your breach of these Terms, or your misuse of the service — except to the extent caused by our gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

15. Privacy

Personal information is handled as described in our Privacy & POPIA notice. Do not submit firearm licence numbers, competency certificate numbers, or ID numbers unless a specific feature expressly and lawfully requires them (we do not ask for those for ordinary shooter or director accounts).

16. Changes

We may update these Terms by posting a new version on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes to paid Pro terms will be communicated to subscribers where practicable.

17. Termination

You may stop using the service and delete or request deletion of your account via hello@shootingsports.co.za (subject to legal retention needs). We may suspend or terminate access for breach or risk to the platform.

18. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Subject to mandatory consumer protections, courts of South Africa have jurisdiction.

19. Consumer note

If you are a consumer under the Consumer Protection Act, nothing in these Terms is intended to unlawfully exclude rights you cannot waive. In that case, conflicting clauses are read down to the minimum extent required.
